SPBD Fiji

After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1984, Bill joined Drexel Burnham’s commodity division and spent the next 31 years trading oil and energy derivatives at various companies including Rafferty Associates, United Energy and Westport Petroleum, Inc.  In 2007, Bill joined Vitol Singapore’s heavy fuel oil desk and worked there until his retirement in 2015. While at Westport and later Vitol, he sourced heavy fuel streams in the US Gulf Coast, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Russia, Bulgaria, The Middle East, Iraq, India, Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesian, Thailand, and Malaysia among others. He also supplied blended fuel to ships in Singapore as well as power plants throughout Asia and the Middle East including India, Pakistan, East Africa, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, and Vietnam, as well as many other smaller destinations. He also managed the complex hedging activities necessitated by all of these physical movements.

After retiring from Vitol in 2015, Bill became Dartmouth College’s District Enrollment Director (DED) in Singapore.  When Bill moved back to Hanover, NH, he stepped into the role of the DED in Hanover.  Bill is also highly engaged in Dartmouth’s planned giving and is a member of the Dartmouth Class Officers Association Executive Board (COAEB).  In the summer of 2022, Bill spent a month in Fiji with his daughter working on a pro bono assignment for SPBD Fiji. Later that year, he joined the Board of Directors of South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Microfinance (Fiji) Pte Ltd.  

Bill and his wife Rowena also began their second careers as real estate investors with properties on Nantucket, Massachusetts and in Hanover, NH, and they are also involved with a UK-lending company via an equity stake in Bayonet Ventures. Bill and Rowena currently split their time between Hanover and Nantucket. They have two daughters.
