SPBD Awards recognise Women Entrepreneurs in Solomon Islands

The South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Network hosted its annual Businesswoman Awards 2026 in Honiara on Friday, recognising the achievements and resilience of women entrepreneurs across Solomon Islands.

The awards celebrated the success of women-owned businesses and highlighted the contribution of women’s economic empowerment to family livelihoods, stronger communities and national economic development.

Delivering the keynote address, Central Bank of Solomon Islands Deputy Governor Reynold Moveni emphasised the importance of financial inclusion in helping women establish and grow their businesses.

Mr Moveni said when women succeed in business, the benefits extend beyond their enterprises to their families, communities and the wider nation.

“When a woman succeeds in business, the benefits extend far beyond her enterprise or business. She invests in her family, and the impact spreads through her community and across the nation. Children gain better opportunities. Households become more secure. Communities grow stronger. Our nation becomes more prosperous,” he said.

He also described women entrepreneurs as role models for future generations, saying their achievements demonstrate how determination, perseverance and access to financial services can create lasting change.

Meanwhile, SPBD Founder and Chairman Gregory Casagrande congratulated the award recipients and encouraged them to remain committed to growing their businesses despite the challenges they may encounter.

He urged the women to understand their customers’ needs, provide quality products and services, and learn from their mistakes rather than give up when business becomes difficult.

“Running a business is very difficult. Running a business is extremely challenging. We will all be faced with moments where we want to say, ‘Oh my God, I’ve had enough. I give up. I want to quit.’ But you stick to it. Be patient with yourself, learn from your mistakes, and stay positive,” he said.

Mr Casagrande said SPBD supports women entrepreneurs through access to finance, business training, financial literacy education and savings services to help them build sustainable businesses and improve their families’ living conditions.

He also encouraged members to support one another, take up leadership opportunities within their groups and continue learning from their business experiences.

SPBD Businesswoman of the Year award recipient Rosilyn Fulaburi said she was grateful for the recognition, adding that she had not expected to win.

“I did not expect to win this award, so I was caught off guard and felt truly surprised and honored to receive it. I would like to thank SPBD for recognizing me and presenting me with this award,” she said.

The annual awards recognise the contribution of women microentrepreneurs to the Solomon Islands economy and encourage more women to pursue business opportunities that can improve their families’ futures and strengthen their communities.
